Dieter Günter Bohlen was born on February 7, 1954, in Berne, West Germany. Furthermore, Bohlen was the eldest son of father Hans Bohlen and mother Edith Bohlen. Also, he has a brother named Uwe.

The German musician was already writing music while in school. He worked as a songwriter in the late 1970s for numerous schlager singers. After schlager singer Thomas Anders and Dieter produced six unsuccessful singles from 1982 to 1984, they founded the pop duo Modern Talking. Surprisingly, the band topped the German singles chart five times in a row. Later, the band split in 1987 and Dieter founded his solo project Blue System which ended 10 years later.

In 2002, the German version of Pop Idol and American Idol; Deutschland sucht den Superstar was launched. Bohlen was one of the judges and is present in all seasons.
