A new lake has been discovered in Nepal, which is higher than Tilicho lake and situated in the same district of Manang. It has been earmarked as a major destination in the preparation of Nepal Tourism Year 2020
Nepal is the home of the highest peak in the world, the Mt. Everest. But not only that, Tilicho lake, situated in the beautiful Manang district of Nepal also held the prestige of being the highest lake in the world in terms of altitude at 4,919m. However, this tag is soon to be officially taken away from the lake as the same district of Manang has discovered a new lake, situated in the base of Lamjung Himal at 5,200m.
Located in Chame village, the administrative headquarter of the Manang district, this lake has been named as Kajin Sara lake. A survey was carried out and approved by the collaborative team of local committee, Annapurna Conservation Area committee, and administrative as well as police personnel for the verification of the altitude of this lake. On July 21, 2019.
The lake covers an area of approximately 1 km and one will need to trek for 2 days to accomplish the achievement of reaching the highest lake in the world. This news has come as a welcome surprise for the local community and authorities, who see this destination as an ideal way to attract more tourist for the upcoming Nepal Tourism year 2020. Although places to eat and sleep are scarce in this route, necessary plans are being made for the arrangement of such facilities very soon. Already famous for its mesmeric views and home to one of the best long-distance trekking routes in the world, the Annapurna circuit trek, the district of Manang has added another string to its bow.

The Kajin Sara lake was found during an initiative by the local committee to find out more about its previously unexplored surroundings. Although the existence of this lake was known previously, its height was not explored and neither were the available routes for reaching it. However, this lake provides unexplored beauty which will undoubtedly provide plenty of interest to explorers all around the world as they prepare for a vacation in the Himalayan nation.
