Ozzy Osbourne(born 3 December 1948) aka John Michael Osbourne is an English singer, songwriter as well as actor and television personality. He has given hit songs like ‘Over the Mountain’, ‘Bark at the Moon’, ‘Mama, I’m Coming Home’ and many more. He was the former lead vocalist of infamous band black sabbath. Though, being fired from the band due to alcohol and drug problems, he had a successful career as the solo singer.

Early Life

Aston area of Birmingham, England, where Osbourne was born. He was the fourth child among six of them of his parents father, John Thomas ”Jack” Osbourne(1915-1977) and mother, Lilian(1916-2001). His father was toolmaker at the General Electric Company and his mother was a non-observant Catholic who worked days at a factory. He has three sisters who are older than him named Jean, Iris and Gillian and two younger brothers named Paul and Tony. During his school he had dyslexia (reading disorder) At the age of 11, he was bullied and sexually abused. During his schooling, he was drawn to stage and took part in school palys such as Gilbert and Sulivans’ The Mikado and HMS pinafore.

Osbourne gives credit to the song “She Loves You” of the Beatles for inspiring him to be a musician. During his early age, he was sent to Winson Green Prison after found guilty of robbing a clothes shop.


In late 1967, Osbourne was recruited to join the band, Rare Breed as the vocalist which was formed by Geezer Butler. The band broke just after they played two shows. Osbourne again reunited with former member Butler with two other members of Mythology. They renamed themselves Earth, but they were booked accidentally for a show instead of a different band with same name they changed their band name after a movie “Black Sabbath” in August 1969 . Butler and Osbourne together, they wrote the lyrics to “Black Sabbath”, their first song in darker vein.

In 1978, Osbourne left the band for three months to pursue his career on a solo project “Blizzard of Ozz” which was the suggested title for the project by his father. In 1980s, amongst the the 100 best-sellers “Blizzard of Ozz” is one of the few to achieved multi-platinum status without the benefit of a top-40 single.

Ozzfest was the Osbourne’s biggest financial success venture of 1990s which was managed by his wife/manager Sharon and assisted by his son Jack

Personal Life

In 1971, Osbourne met Thelma at a nightclub called Rum Runner where she used to work. They were married in 1971, while he adopted Thelma’s son Elliot and Jessica and Louis were born from them. His habit of drinking alcohol and taking drugs led him to the divorce with his first wife, where he refereed his first marriage as terrible mistake of his life. On 4 july 1982, Osbourne got married to his manager Sharon Arden. The cuople have three children together, Aimee (born 2 september), Kelly (born born 27 October 1984) Jack (born 8 November 1985).

Osbourne wrote the song for his daughter Aimee which was on B-side the album Ozzmosis. According to the sunday Times Rich List, Osbourne and Arden are one of the UK’s richest couples. They were ranked at number 485 in 2005. Osbourne has 15 tattoos over his body among which the tattoo the letters O-Z-Z-Y across the knuckles of his left hand is famous.

On 6 February 2019, he was hospitalized oh his doctor’s advice due to flu complications and he was moved to intensive care due to Pneumonia.


Throughout his career, Osbourne was accused of being negative influence on teenagers, stating that his genre of rock music has been used to glorify Satanism by many religious groups. In 1981, Osbourne bit the head off a dove which was planned to be released the into air as a sign of peace, during a meeting with CBS Records executives in Los Angeles. He did that activity due to intoxication. Despite the controversy, it is assumed that it became a part of his career which made him famous.

In 1984, a teenager from California committed suicide while listening to the song “Suicide Solution”. Then, Osbourne was accused of promoting suicide but, court ruled in Osbourne’s favour.
