Sanna Marin is set to become the world’s youngest prime minister at 34.

Finland’s 34-year-old minister Sanna Marin, will also become the world’s youngest-ever prime minister when she affirms on Tuesday.

According to Reuters, Sanna narrowly won a vote among Social Democrat lawmakers on Sunday and replaces current Prime Minister Antti Rinn, who resigned on Tuesday after coalition partner, the Central Party said it had lost confidence in him over his handling of postal workers’ strike.

According to Reuters, The prime minister-elect told reporters that she has “a lot of work ahead to rebuild trust”.

Sanna told to the reporter that “I have never thought about my gender or age, I think of the reasons I got into politics and those things for which we have won the trust of the electorate”.

At the age of 27, Sanna stands up through the ranks after leading the city council fo her industrial hometown Tampere.

Among the five-member governing coalition, the Social Democrats are the largest party. Sanna took the top spot after beating Antti Lindtman, head of the party’s parliamentary group.

Sanna isn’t the only world leader in her 30’s. There are other leaders who ruled in their 30’s: Ukranian premier Oleksiy Honcharuk is 35 and New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is 39.

The parliament of Finland has five major parties which are now all led by women, four of them are in their 30’s: 32 years-old Li Andersson, is the leader of the Left Alliance; 32 years-old Katri Kulmuni, leads the Centre Party; Maraia Ohisalo,34, is the leader of Green League; and the Swedish People’s Party is led by Anna-Maja Henriksson,55.

The early life of Sanna Marin

Sanna was born on 16 November 1985 in Helsinki. Before moving to Tampere, she lived in Espoo and Pirkkala. When she was very young her parents split up, Sanna’s father struggled with alcoholism and also the family faced financial problems. Sanna’s mother found a new partner and took Sanna with her after divorce.

Sanna narrates herself as coming from a family of same-sex parents (two women). She was the only child in her family means she doesn’t have siblings and was the first person to attend university in her family. She married Markus Raikkonen and had a daughter Emma Amalia Marin in January 2018. In 2004 at the age of 19, she graduated from the Pirkkala High School. She graduated from the University of Tampere with a Master of Administrative

In 2006, Sanna joined the Social Democratic Youth and served as its first Vice President from 2010 to 2012.

Sanna was not elected but was a candidate in the 2008 Finnish municipal elections. The breakthrough moment in her political career was when she was elected to the City Council of Tampere at the age of 27. From 2013 to 2017, she was the chairperson of the City Council. in 2017, she was re-elected to the City Council. She was also a member of the Pirkanmaa Regional Council from 2013 to 2016 and till now she is a member of the Assembly of the Council of Tampere Region.

In 2014, she was elected second deputy chairperson of the Social Democratic Party. She was elected to the Parliament of Finland as an MP from the electoral district of Pirkanmaa in 2015 at the age of 30. She was re-elected after four years. She became the Minister of Transport and Communications on 6 June 2019.

Antti was extensively criticized over the way he handled a postal strike, but he will remain the formal leader of the party at least until June 2020. Sanna was narrowly preferred over her rival Antti Lindtman in a majority vote. Sanna is the head of the Marin government formed by the five-party coalition in which 12 out of 19 ministers in the cabinet are women. The Marin government continues with the same parties and the same government platform as Rinne Cabinet, with individual changes of portfolios.
