Bottas was born in Nastola, Finland on August 28, 1989. He is the son of father Rauno Bottas and mother Marianne Välimaa. Rauno owns a small cleaning company and Marianne is an undertaker. Also, Valtteri served in the army briefly as it is mandatory for adult males in Finland. In addition, his military rank is Lance Corporal.
Valtteri joined Willims in 2013. In the same year, he scored his first points at the US Grand Prix on finishing 8th place. Furthermore, he added maiden podium in Austria 2014 alongside two back-to-back podiums in Silverstone and Hockenheim.
